A: Follow the Instructions on our
web hosting page. Q: Do you accommodate FrontPage Extensions? A: Yes. Q: I have web space reserved with you, but need help designing my page. A: You can hire the Optimus Media team, or
do it yourself. Contact us if you
are interesting in a professional looking web site or see our support
area for information on creating your own site. A: 50 Megs. You can increase that to 200 Megs for
an additional $15.00 per month. Q: I've messed up my web site, do you have a back-up? A: While we do regular system back-ups, we
do not keep back-ups of individual web site data. You are
responsible for this yourself. Let
us know if you need help doing this. Q: How do I get my web page loaded to the server. I am using Microsoft FrontPage. A: Please see our web design support
area. Q: Where can I get FTP Software? A: www.download.com
is a good source. For Non-commercial or private home use, SmartFTP
is our current favorite. Q: I can't FTP to my web site. A: Websites should see
this using the very popular WS_FTP software. Delete your user name
and password and try it again. Q: When I register my domain name, do I have full control and ownership of it (if Optimus Media is my web host provider)? A: Yes, even if Optimus Media registered your
web site you still have full ownership of the site during the domain name
during the registration period. Q: Are there any penalties or fees from Optimus Media to transfer from you to another hosting company? A: No. There is no charge for removal of your
site (although it should be noted setup charges are nonrefundable). Q: Are there any contractual agreements that Optimus Media requires me to agree to in order to be my web host provider (other than moral or legal issues)? A: Other than moral or legal, no, not really.
We reserve the right to cancel service for any site that we find to contain
material we find offensive. Optimus Media also reserves the right
to remove you from our server should you violate our standards of conduct.
Wonder if you violate our standards? Just ask. Q: I sent the files up with an FTP program, but can't see my stuff on the address. A: If the files are not uploaded to the correct
path they will not be visible on the web (this is the most common error
for why user can not see their web site). You must FTP into the
"/web" directory (without quotes). Only files in this
directory will be visible. Q: All I see is a page that says this is a "place holder", and I know I've uploaded my home page A: Your home page (the page you want people
to see first) should be named index.html. If it is named index.htm,
that will work, only if there is no file named index.html. Q: All I see is a list of my files, I don't see my home page. A: Your home page (the page you want people
to see first) should be named index.html, index.htm, index.shtml, or default.htm Q: How can I change the password to access my web site? A: A very helpful web based site administration
tool is available at https://www.yoursitename.com:8443/ (example:
https://www.optimusmedia.com:8443). This will enable you to
change your web passwords, email redirects and a host of other functions. Q: I have a Perl script on my site, but can't remember the Perl path: A: "/usr/bin/perl" without the quotes.
In other words, the "shazam" line of your script should read:
#!/usr/bin/perl Q: I have a script on my site this is asking for the sendmail path, what is it? A: /usr/bin/perl Q: How do I get an email address associated with my Optimus Media hosted domain name? A: If you selected this option, you'll need to make a change to your email software setting. If you are using Microsoft's Outlook Express here are the instructions. (For these examples, we will use Joe@myisp.com as the actual email account and info@mynewdomain.com as the new alias): To simply change your current email address to the new alias follow these instructions.
To use both your actual email address and an email alias or if you want to use multiple aliases, you'll have to set up separate mail accounts for each alias in outlook express. You do not have to have separate email accounts with your ISP, only within the email software and there is no limit to the number of aliases you can use.
-top- Q: If I change my current ISP does this affect my web site? A: No. Your hosting is separate from your ISP (Internet Service Provider). However, if you are using email aliasing, you will need to contact us and let us know of any changes in your POP email address, so we can redirect your email to your new e-mail address. -top- |
